Gentilly
We took a drive through an area called Gentilly. Block after block after block was exactly the same: tilted homes, visible water lines, boarded windows, trees fallen over onto homes, rusted cars, windows and doors missing.
As we drove around we came across an older man sweeping the street at the side of his house, a striking contrast to the devastation and the trash piled all around the neighborhood. When asked what he was doing, he said "I'm just trying to keep the street clean".
Steve S. points out the water line on the outside of this home. The waters rose above this and then settled in to create the line on the exterior of the homes. In the interior of the homes, the water lines were marked by these stripes and dots of mold above the water line.
Most of the homes are made of wood, with hardwood floors.
The things we leave behind....
