4/20/06 - Our Thursday and Friday assignments

On Thursday, the four guys who went to the elementary school went to the high school to see what they could do there.

Steve and Stan were immediately sucked up into the library, where they packed books, moved books to and from classrooms, filed books, and set up a computer for students to do research.

Jim was asked to help in the front office, answering phones and greeting visitors.

It didn't take long for Jim to make friends with everyone in the front area and soon we heard his voice over the school P.A. system asking various students and personnel to come to the front office.

The rest of us were stowed away once again in the counselors' office, which was a small trailer with no windows, four offices, and a central area. Steve S. was a good sport, spending a day and a half sending faxes to the high schools to which the students were relocated. I think he may now know everything there is to know about fax machines and faxing. Vickie is going through the student files and putting together information.

We finished our job and were actually ahead of the game by the time our time was up at lunch on Friday. The counselors were very thankful for our help. It felt good to know that we were making a difference for the students of this high school.
